Last (?) Portswood project steering group meeting on Thursday 12th

Hey all - it's the last bus gate/portswood project steering group meeting this week. One of the agenda items is "next steps" with an indication of the possibility for an ongoing role for it!

But is there anything else anyone would like me to bring up? I'm definitely going to bring up & invite people to this forum as I believe we've started next steps here already. But this forum isn't just me - what would you like me to talk about?

Francis It's the last scheduled one & the gr6 was only meant to last as long as the trial scheme - but there's an agenda item of "next steps" with a sub item of "future role of the steering group".

So it seems there's a possibility that it may continue in some form. Specially as the scheme is technically paused, not ended.

I'd sugest one big problem was the road layout was confused due to the part time nature of the bus gate, leading to conflicts between busses and cars. In particular a bus on the Sainsburys inbound stand blocks the turn left lane (green filter first) with queuing traffic waiting to go down Broadway blocking the bus

Francis forgot to update you on this - the meeting was cancelled due to officer sickness & no one to staff it, so it's going to be rearranged

One thought I have had is, given the problems with rat running, would the bus gate have been better positioned next to wait rose?

Francis That was an option at one point too. The council should have gone with their first proposals. Not watered it down to a bus gate, too. My impression is they privately realise that literally nothing would have helped the people opposing the scheme, now.

Just done my first B*2 in ages, did the meeting ever take place?

Francis No, it's it's technically suspended, if anything goes forward, we'll probably get called together then. I'm not totally surprised - it was entirely reliant on council officers good will & free time, as they attended & answered questions etc. I don't think they're particularly happy with the outcome, either - they did a lot of work on the project, just for it to be pulled from under them.

I see the scheme is now officially dead, did they bother to have another meeting for the steering group?
