Southampton airport expansion

I'm a bit conflicted about the latest news - on the one, obvious, hand, Southampton Airport serves the whole Southampton/Portsmouth metro region. That's over a million people & growing. It's clearly too small. On the other, air transport isn't exactly clean & sustainable, they're cutting down trees for this & the whole project is triggering my inner NIMBY.

We really need to find a sustainable way to grow the airport.

I'm fine with medium to long haul flights (not that we get any), the time saving makes it worthwhile. Would like to see a lot fewer English destinations though

Francis Mostly Agree - I don't even mind places like Edinburgh (Scotland, not England, I know) , which is clearly most efficient to get to via plane. Would certainly like better options for getting to Northern England, though. The Train routes can be a drag, sometimes. High fares & longer times compared to the plane - so I understand why people fly to eg. Leeds.

Having actually had a look at where you can get too now it looks fine (Manchester is ok due to being a hub, Newcastle though?). When did the Leeds Bradford and Liverpool flights go.
Yes the trains really do need to improve their offer for those
