Aims & Objectives:
- To provide a constructive platform for Southampton residents to discuss, learn about, and advocate for accessible, sustainable, and efficient public transport and active travel infrastructure.
- To analyse and provide community feedback on local transport plans, urban development proposals, and their impact on Southampton's connectivity and liveability.
- To specifically address the issues arising from the breakdown of the Portswood Project and advocate for positive future solutions.
- To foster a community interested in progressive urbanism in Southampton.
Membership:
- Membership is open to any individual who supports the aims of SoConnect and joins the SoConnect Flarum forum at https://soconnect.org.uk
- While discussion is open to all, active participation in formal group submissions or representations will prioritise those residing, working, or studying in the Southampton City Council and surrounding metropolitan area. With due weight given to those in the Hampshire, Solent & Isle of Wight regions both because transit goes across boundaries & with respect to the current Mayoral Combined Authority devolution consultation.
- Partizan civic leaders, such as local councillors are welcome to sign up to the forum, but will not be considered members of SoConnect for any operational decision making purposes. They are otherwise welcome to participate fully in discussions as if addressing any other physical forum. They will not be considered members of SoConnect unless they purposely and specifically opt in.
How We Operate / Decision Making:
- SoConnect operates primarily through its online forum, which serves as the main platform for discussion and information sharing.
- Key proposals or official statements made on behalf of SoConnect will be discussed openly on the forum for a set period, with a summary of views guiding the final position.
Our Core Values:
- We strive to be Constructive, Evidence-Based, Inclusive, Community-Focused.
